Expressive language

T likes the water. And when I say he likes it, I mean he really, really likes it. In fact, I can't leave him for too long unsupervised while he sits on the toilet, or he'll play in the water. So it should come as no surprise that he enjoys his nighttime routine which still includes a bathing time. A few months ago, after a visit to my parents' home where they only have a shower, T started requesting a shower at night - and he's never gone back to a bath.

The reason I titled this post "Expressive language" is this: tonight, around 7:15pm (about 45 minutes early), he said spontaneously, "Shower time." And off he trotted to the bathroom.

I just love those clear moments!

I find your blog rather reassuring. Sometimes I find it hard, but like you clearly expressed here, there are times when everything runs so very smoothly. My sister, whom I get to see rarely, adores me and wants to spend as much time with me as possible. As I live in another state for uni, when I fly back I don't always get to see her everyday as I have other family to see and friends to catch up with. Recently she has been difficult to organise things with as she tries to manipulate the situation. I aim to spend as much of my free time with her as I can, but she always wants more. I can understand this, but she tells her carers in her share house that she's spending x amount of time with me, when in reality I've told her something very different. We(my father and I) want her to be as independant as possible, but it seems like we are regressing; again having to organise things with her carers rather than letting her do it like an adult. But then we get those rare moments when she forgets about trying to stay longer or come over more often and simply enjoys our company. she's such a treasure in those moments.

while this is probably a long post, it just feels good to know someone experiences something similar. thank you.

Ahora, Pedro, favor de sacartete de este blog- no es cosa politica. Lo que escribes no es nada que tiene que ser con Tommy.

This guy's blog in Spanish makes even less sense than it does in English.

Allseasons,
I am so glad that my blog brought you a moment of connection. This all can be so isolating, can't it? The blessings and challenges that come are certainly things we never dreamed we'd face. A dear mentor, who has an adult son w/ autism, told me once to "Just keep looking toward the light. There's enough darkness out there, believe me. But just keep looking toward the light." I do my best to do this, and it sounds like you are too, when your sister is a treasure. She is.
